A Guide to Seattle's Best Southern Foods

We loved exploring Seattle's food culture so much after we moved here, but sometimes you just crave some really good barbecue. Or fried chicken. Or apparently, all things fried. After several disappointing meals, David and I have found our staple restaurants that give us a delicious taste of the southern foods we grew up eating. And some of them even exceed Florida's best.

Go check them out!
Bitterroot BBQ
The Walrus and the Carpenter
The Wandering Goose
Brave Horse Tavern (no kids allowed)
Ezell's Famous Chicken
El Chupacabra
Note: We haven't found good Cuban food yet. Tips appreciated!

Enjoy!

  1. It's a little out of the way, but you must try Southern Kitchen in Tacoma. Other than that, I'm assuming you've already tried Kingfish Cafe (for southern) and Paseo (for cuban sandwiches)?

    1. Thanks for the tips, Allen! I've had the cuban sandwich and was apparently one of the only people that didn't like. It was nothing like any of the cuban sandwiches I've had growing up in Florida. Kingfish Cafe has been on our list for a while, and we just haven't made it over there yet. We laugh because my grandpa's name is Percy and their "Percy’s Plate for Sharin’" fits him perfectly. He's large, from Jackson, MS, and I grew up eating fried catfish with him. I'm sure I'll add Kingfish to my guide once I get to go. And now Southern Kitchen is my list to try. Thanks again!
